How Child Abuse Effect Those Who Realize When It’s Too Late

She watches as the lights go out before their fight.
Lights the last candle to see.
She wants to do everything to keep out the nights.
During their yelling she whispers “How long till this dark feeling consumes me?”

In school she is alive
At home she feels as if she just died a little inside.
The clock strikes five,
She knows it’s time to go hide.

Even a lock door can’t save her from him.
She wonders to God how she deserved this.
He busts down the door and her eyes waters to the brim
As he hits her already bruised flesh she wonders what happened to daddy’s little princess.

When he’s done she crawls to her window and whispers,
“Life before is only a bittersweet memory.”
She wonders how long it will take for them to remember.
That they were once a happy family.

Right now to her there is only this pain,
She hopes that she will get through the day.
That someday she will never have to go through this all again.
But she knows that day won’t be today.

She tries to be warm,
But she’s growing colder.
A bright light begins to form
She holds out her hand in an attempt to be bolder.

The next day they find her dead.
Now they must face that it’s over.
The father misses his little princess and every word she ever said.
The mother sobs over her daughter’s figure.

If only they never made their mistakes
Their daughter would still be alive.
They realize this and any punishment is thrown at them they will gladly take.
Now they both say “I can’t believe she is gone and I’m alive"
