The Truth About Love

Love is not full of passion and roses
Not welcoming or comforting
It storms and invades surreptitiously
And strikes you down before you know what's hit
It is a perpetual war tormenting the soul
It is a detonated bomb
Blowing your life out of control
Love taunts you, pretends it's within your reach
You grasp but then it abandons you
Sucking away life like a leech
With nothing left over to pursue
Love is a rifling bullet of lead
It rips right through and leaves you for dead
