Tension Builds in Piss-Smelling Rooms

ICU full of beeping sounds
and smells of cleansers
and sterile material.
The shadow of death looms
overhead
Laughing to taunt all of
those who are waiting
for recovery of loved ones.
Who may just not recover.
The waiting room smells
like piss
and toddlers scream
to all annoyance.
There is no comfort
as we wait for news,
and the nurse comes in
and people expectantly
raise their head in vain.
Nothing happens in the
deathly still air
and the words we
dread
are the one we hear.
All hope is gone
and screams flow through
the hall like wildfire...
Why now?
