Black Cat

I threw my pen to the page,
Thinking of my wife
Animals flashed through by head
I thought of a cat.

Black and beautiful
Intelligent
Only I remembered to feed her.

Intoxicated by poison
I stumbled in the door
Her teeth took to my hand
In cautionary action.

I grabbed her throat
I got a blade
I cut her emerald eye out.

Over time, the socket healed
The mangled scars overthrew her face
She was hideous.

If I were to saunter by
Or offer her a kipper
She'd run daintily
In absolute terror.

I'm sorry.
