Protection

His smile is a mask,
A mask that hides his true being.
Hides what is deep within his soul,
What is eating away at him,
Incessantly poisoning his every thought.
He asks himself why.?
Why has this happened to me.?
What harm have i brought upon anyone.?

Innocence is but a veil to protect
those who know nothing of the world.
A place both cruel and unusual, that
bares no mercy on the ones who inhabit it.
For innocence was given to be taken away.
But why this way.?

That mask he wears is one of greatness,
utter perfection.
A mask in which only one can dream to posess.
With that mask, he can fool the world.
Make them believe what he wishes.
A smile, a laugh, perfected with little effort.

Even what appears to be perfection has its imperfections.
She can see beyond that mask of his,
Into the very depths of his soul.
Feel his pain and can't help but to allow it to affect her inner self.
For she wears one also, slightly less perfected.

She is drawn to him, like a moth to a flame.
She yearns to embrace him in her arms and rid him of the pain.
Erase his memory, leaving him with no feeling of the past.
Protect him from all harm.
Close his eyes to the very sight of pain,
Be that veil that once was innocence.
Unmask him,
Tell him everything will be okay,
For she is his protection, there to protect him..
Forever.
