Midnight Wishes

I look up at the moon,
And I wish upon a star,
And I know you’re looking back at me,
No matter where you are.

For when the sun is in the sky,
Its light warms up our days,
But when it sets and drowns at sea,
We go our separate ways.

In the darkness I am scared,
And need you by my side,
I’m lost inside an unknown world,
And have nowhere to hide.

But then you went and gave me light,
To wash away my fears,
And every night,
Just like tonight,
It faithfully appears.

Of all the diamonds in the sky,
I have not one for you,
For yours shines brighter than them all,
This I know is true.

And when it rises in the sky,
I know that you are there,
Looking too up at the moon,
Although I know not where.

And how I long to see your face,
To feel your touch upon my skin,
To see the sunrise in your eyes,
And know that love lies deep within.

Yet just when dreams are too surreal,
Does love spur magic to its height,
A knock upon the door below,
Means you have come to me tonight.

The handle cold upon my hand,
The hinges creak,
the door swings wide,
A face so young,
yet eyes so old,
You take my hand as you step inside.

Your eyes meet mine,
The moon’s in eclipse,
I hear your whispers,
Feel your hands on my hips.

I looked at the moon,
And wished on a star.
I tell you now,
I wished,
That I could be right where you are.

And on this day of lover’s love,
I bring you simply this,
The company of a long time friend,
And the softness of a moonlight kiss.

So out we went into the yard,
Bodies close beneath the stars,
Kissing beneath the shining moon,
The wishing star uniquely ours.
