I Am Not Yours

broken promises
shattered glass
I buried the body deep
but he found his way back

he pleaded for a chance
but I wouldn't hear him out
he wanted just a single word
but I knew what it was about

never raise a demon
that you can't lay to rest
your love and fickle torture
would have taken away my best

always a careful observer
but never take part in the art
too careful to get my toes wet
for fear of something dark

I'd rather die on my feet
than live on my knees
a personal motto
call me a hypocrite if you please

unworthy to speak
numbness cripples my tongue
put my heart in your hands?
I'd rather see it hung.
