A Dead Child's Message for Her Future

Chalky textured and smooth as knives,
A child-like image of the truth in our lives.
Upon the pavement an oath sworn in innocence,
Surrounded by walls of ignorance.

When I force open my heavy lidded eyes,
Blindness is the only thing I see.
When I listen closely for their soft cries,
I can only hear gentle humming next to me.

A backround as black as midnight's skin,
Memories left in colors never to return again.
Weeds of jealousy twist their way inside,
Casting out the art of this lonely ground's pride.

One stray child with a heart as light as feathers,
Runs her small hand over the faded milky letters.
Among jumpropes and skirts of a polka dotted kiss,
Staring in wonder as her young eyes see through the mist.

But then her friends call out and she runs off to play,
Leaving the message to end its life in the same exact grave.
Maybe the future of a single girl can never change at all,
When we're not the only ones who know how to fall.
