The Source

All our lives we spend looking for the answer,
Straying away from all sense of reality, logic and sense,
When the whole time the answer was following you,
It stares back at you in the mirror.

We naively look around us, wanting excuses,
Just another reason to destroy what was given to us,
What happened between now and the first man,
What knowledge did we gain to create this destructive trait.

What is this need we crave so relentlessly,
To question and crush anything lesser,
Even our microscopic friends aren’t safe no more,
The downfall has already begun

We hunt everything and everyone around us,
Yet we can’t seem to bring ourselves back to the source,
Where the problem began and where it will end,
The downfall began when he ate the apple.

If we continue this battle, to what end?
What happens when we’ve devoured everything but mankind,
Then what are we protecting the human race from,
And all we have to fear is ourselves.

Then we cannibalise our own society,
Dividing: Race, gender and religion,
Capitalists will conquer, and we’ll all be left in rock,
And we die martyrs of our own cause.
