The World of Altered Anatomy

That white wall across the way disappears
And the blackness glazes my eyes a moment
Before the lights come back on and look around
To find myself in a world backwards yet still unchanged

The fish have wings as they orbit the moon
And the cats graze on shrimp hidden low in the treebottoms
The horses shout quack whilst they run through the sky
And the cars are all neon and smiling with rubik's cube wheels

All this strangeness surrounds me as I walk blindly by the road
Yet the two-footed beings are just as careless as can be,
Yet the cars still pollute and the birds still sing
As I swim on through this world of altered anatomy

The water reflects in the clouds as I go for an airy dip
The puppies' scaly fur brushing my bare legs
Under I go falling into a lined sub-world beneath all
Run must I from the notes falling into place just so

The elephants cuddle as the mice herd by
And the flamingos dance with penguins in the valleys
My photographic memories can't decieve as the briefcases wave goodbye
And the loosened ties take flight into the sun's frowning face

Searching for something, yet I know not what it is
But I keep on walking through these strange choruses three
And continue seeing the familar turned strange
But keep on treking through the world of altered anatomy

A gondola of cheese waits for me by the highway
I ride along with the smiling Reaper as my guide
And then I spot my shiny in the distance
"Accelerate!" I say as he brings it to a rough end

I sprint out and jump towards the shiny I know is mine
Paint splattered sky converging upon this light
Almost there, disfigured norm disappearing into white
Still moving, trying to catch it before it fades away

At once I fall, the carpet dingy in my eyes
As I realize 'twas all a dream, a world I imagined
But in my lap lies something, a doll of a merpuppy
My gift from the wondeful world of altered anatomy
