Already Gone

Spinning out the ending of a tale as it comes to a close,
You see it isn't over yet, but sometimes it's easy to know.
The way she sits in front of the mirror and brushes her hair,
Eyes misty with unspoken wishes to move on without tears.

And he stares over her thin shoulder as he watches from the bed,
He tries to blink the look in her eyes away, but it slowly grows instead.
And when she turns around to grin and bless the morning sunshine,
He smiles softly in return but somehow he knows it's not fine.

The once beautiful colors of their world eventually fade away,
He knows not when she'll leave whether it be tomorrow or today.
But she continues to brush her hair with that distant look in her eyes,
He simply looks at the peeling wall to pretend he didn't see her lies.

And when the moonlight comes streaming in through the open window,
He wakes to find that empty space and sees she finally decided to go,
But somewhere deep inside he knew she was already gone,
It simply hurt him more when he realized she had truly moved on.
