Madeline

I know a girl with burnt blonde hair,
And eyes a saddening blue.
That once had gorgeous brown locks so fair,
But wanted to fit in too.

She dyed her fine, exquisite strands,
And made it straight, her hair.
But in the mirror in her hands,
She didn't see herself there.

She saw a girl with burnt blonde hair.
And eyes a saddening blue.
And cried, for it was too much to bear,
But she wanted to fit in too.

So she kept burning and dying.

And Madeline, that was her name,
She always tried to please.
She is so sad, she feels such shame
She covers her arms, and legs to the knees.

Yes, Madeline who once was strong,
Strongest I ever knew,
Just wanted to be herself, and belong.
......But she wanted to fit in too.
