Vam Pyre

Vam Pyre

HEAR me passers-by,
For maybe you will listen and learn from my last lines.
What my kith and kin understand not – or rather wish not understand.
How they have wrongly slain a blameless life by their blinding prejudice.
Lo! I bared a differing account of King’s Evil: Consumption.
This made them mistake me to be
A devious Demon that fancied to destroy thee.
Not the man they knew suave and kind,
But rather an evil of old with a perverse peace of mind.
Pale flesh, weakened breath; cold blood guiding me to a natural death.
Everyone abandoned me, until I had nothing left,
To just then turn against me – revolting revolution,
And force queer irony on my surname
Where I met my demise in brimstone and flame.
At the end they grinned like wild beasts with pride,
And vigorously hymned, “happy you’ve died!”
I wonder years future to now will they look back and realize
How they were deceived by such a superstitious lie.
