Street Life

The sun falls
Turning alleyways into open mouths
The streets turn barren
With no one in sight
No sound such as a growl of a dog
Or a purr of an engine
Or the foot falls of a human being.
The street lights turn on
And finally some people come out
Some caring guns while others carry switch blades.
But they all round the corner
Between the west and the east

Facing each others
And facing death
Because they all know the last one standing will come out as the best
They all stay quiet facing one another
Until their leaders step up and face each other

Then within seconds an all war blows out.
Within seconds some chicken out
Within minutes some are out
And within hours they are all gone.

Finally the sun rises again

And the street lights blow out
But before people are out the police have come
And has cleaned all the bodies out

The only proof of the war that blew out that night
Was all the blood on the pavement floor

And when the sun finally rises
I get a single phone call

Announcing that one of the dead was my boy Johnny who somehow got shot
And now would never come back.
