Them Summer Days

I grow anxious about those summer days
When the night sky is full of twinkling eyes
You can see from light years away
Those times when the toads and frogs come out in the night
And kids catch them with their bare hands
Keep them over night to see which ones chirp the loudest

I miss those summer days
When a trip to the creek is like a vacation
When warm rain falls from the sky
Leaving a drink for the thirsty grass
Them nights when you wear hardly any clothes
And sweat all through the hot night

Them days where my skin stings from the direct sun
Leaving my skin to grow darker
The sweat rolling down my back is refreshing
As I race against my friend
Till one of us gets tired

Them summer days when I’ll go barefoot on the asphalt
Causing the bottoms of my feet to burn
Run after the rare ice cream truck
And beg for money that I know I will not receive

I like them summer days
Where we would have jumping contests at the pool
The biggest splash made by us all
And the best front flips in wins hands down
Just hoping non of us slip on the side running in

Those summer days where it’s too hot to cook
We get something quick to eat
And have something cool to drink

Them summer days when we stay outside all night
The cool ending air of the day caresses our skin
And we do not come in
Until we feel the mosquito bites irritate our skin
We put talc lotion on them and go back out again

Them summer days were the rain is fun
No one cares about there hair drying out
No one cares about the sickness we might get
Because it’s always warm in summer days

Them summer days where we plant seeds
Watch fruits grow and flowers blossom
Smell the sweet nectar and scent the flowers give off
And run from the bees they attract

I like them summer days when the bugs chirp loudly
A sweet lullaby to our ears when we sleep at night
But a nightmare when the chirping is in your house
When you have to watch where you’re stepping at night
Because a bug might rush under your feet

Those summer days when we eat sweet watermelon
See who can throw the rhine the farthest
And spit the seeds at each other

I miss them summer days with memories of you
