The Hurt Hurt

Why do we hurt each other
If we’re all afraid of pain?
Everyone is accusing
Yet no one takes the blame
We treat hearts like rubber
When ours are made of glass
We pretend we are most fragile
And others can bounce back

Why do we hurt…?

Why do we tease each other
If we don’t like playing games?
Everyone is accusing
Yet we all feel the same
We’re tired of running ‘round
Chasing shreds of hope
We all want to rest in safe arms
But we won’t give our own

When will we learn…?

Why do we lie to ourselves
When no one else can hear?
We are knifing our own spines
With jagged little spears
We call ourselves “victims”
With blood on our hands
Everyone is bleeding
But we won’t take a stand

I’m another hostage
In my own wretched cage
I bristle when people stare
I fly into a burning rage
I hide the key in my mouth
So when the night falls dark
I break free and mess around
With other creatures’ hearts

Why do we hurt each other?
Why do we hurt ourselves?
When will we learn that
Love is better than anything else?
