Silence Fills the Air

Travelling along the highway passing all the town and cities by,
Everything becomes blurry and we laugh only once in a while.
Things get awkward when we wonder why we’re even here,
So instead we nervous laugh and talk about the next stop and pray it’s near.

We arrive but we are not talking
Silence fills the air
Along the dirt path we carry on walking
Just say one word
Just one sound
It’s now a child’s dare.

“Maybe it’s time I go to Paris and you go off to visit Rome,
And maybe if we feel better we can talk about it when we both arrive home.”
He said all these words that I just couldn’t understand,
But instead of arguing back I just fell silent and let go of his hand.
