The Sleepless Dreamer

Engulfed in the arms of warmth and serenity,
You indulge in such an underrated pleasure;
The simple art of sleep.

With your drooping eyelids and resting mind,
Tranquillity overcomes you,
Easily,
Naturally,
As it always does when the moon bares its presence.

Whilst your mind succumbs to such ignorant bliss;
Shielding its worries within the depths of slumber,
I struggle in helpless desperation;
Unable to achieve what you underestimate.

I lie blatantly awake,
Restless in body and spirit,
Incapable of escaping the thoughts harrowing my mind.

I yearn for the land of dreams and wishes,
The sanctuary brought by the darkness of night;
A comatose state where I can be released from reality’s grasp,
And left at the mercy of my dreams.

Seeking desperately to untangle my thoughts,
To be released from this burden,
I merely drive myself deeper into insomnia;
Paranoid of everlasting consciousness.

As night falls and my head hits the pillow,
I hope for nothing more than the satisfaction of sleep;
The indulgence that a blissful slumber brings,
And all those dreams that come alongside it.

I wish to return to those realms of fantasy and imagination,
Where anything is possible,
And a dreamer can truly feel complete.
