We Sailed Away

Empty sea shells left along the shore,
Lost and forgotten to those who once explored.
The waves crash and the waves brush,
The sandy beach with its palms so lush.

And inside the little grains of sand,
There lies a thousand breathing creatures.
Those who live in water or land,
With evil or beautiful tiny features.

But in the dawn we catch no prey,
Only moonlight will reveal what we say.
How can one look on with a gaze of hate,
When they are entitled to this land of late?

Tied to the shore the empty sailboat rocks,
Swaying with eerie motion on the docks.
And the chains roll like thunder in their groans,
Creaking and cracking against the cold stones.

A haunted place this will always be,
So why not come sail away with me?
Perhaps a mermaid will pull you under,
But let's not be too hasty to steal their punder.

The ocean sprays a mist so fine,
Pure and untainted as your lost fishing line.
What must we do to finally leave these waves,
Hiding within the moist forgotten caves?

I'd take your hand if you would take my own,
Or else we may rot in this darkness all alone.
Come fire come ice on the horizon we pray,
Because we were lost when we first sailed away.
