Ahead Or Behind

As I stared out the plane window,
The tears still in my eyes,
I saw the vision of those I loved,
As we’d said our last good—byes.

The flight was long and tiring,
Two questions plagued my mind,
Do I want the life that’s up ahead,
Or the one I left behind?

Two years is such a long, long time,
Going door to door,
In my reflections, I thought to myself,
There really must be more.

Well, I dragged myself down off the plane
Into the West Virginia rains,
When a mission president turned to me to say,
“Elder, go find the strays.”

I sit reflecting once again,
You see, this day is my last,
Please, Lord, it isn’t fair,
The time has gone so fast.

As I stared out the plane window,
The tears still in my eyes,
I see Elders and friends I love,
As we’ve said our last good-byes.

The flight was long and tiring,
Two questions plagued my mind,
Do I want the life that’s up ahead,
Or the one I’m leaving behind?
