A Christmas Carol

So, basically this is an adaption of Charles Dicken's original story. I wrote it last year for Creative writing class:

Late in the evening
Carolers were sweetly singing
And as neighborhood lights glowed
Peace and joy freely flowed.

But there was one old man
From which this story began
By most he was considered a miser
Through these events he became much wiser.

On this earth there were only a few things
It usually involved his purse strings
This man was known as Mr. Scrooge.
To children he was frightening and huge.

He was wicked and cruel
A regular old fool
He would lie, steal and cheat
Yet he thought he was part of the elite.

One Christmas Eve as he was journeying home
Through the streets he did roam
He chanced upon a man from years past....
Someone of whom he thought he had seen the last.

This man was a ghost
This thing he hated to boast
He came to give warning
Of terrible things foreboding.

"Three spirits shall visit thee,"
"The first at one, the last at three."
Scrooge was doubtful at first
At this foretelling he cursed.

He ignored all that had transpired
For honestly he was quite tired
He felt for sure he would be quite bold.
When all of a sudden, the bell tolled.

The Ghost of Christmas Past had finally come
Scrooge's emotions were rather numb
But as passed by the visions of the years
Soon free-flowing came the tears.

As he was brought back to his bed,
Many confusing thoughts swirled in his head
He decided that he would wait
As he said, "I will take this bait."

As the bell struck two, Scrooge laughed it was plain to see
"Marley, where is this grand ghost you promised me?!"
He quickly swallowed his words and bit his tongue
This grand, yet frightening adventure had only begun.

"Scrooge, get up, come with me!"
"We have so very much to see."
Scrooge followed this Ghost of the Present
And out the large door they went.

There was no bending of time with this giant
This time Scrroge could only be compliant
Scrooge saw the poverty and despair
He had helped to create this sad state of affairs.

He felt thoroughly guilty now
No more of this could he allow
This final visit he was dreading
For which direction was he heading?

The bell tolled out doom at three
"Scrooge, I have come for thee!"
"Thou wouldst not repent."
"Thy very will could not be bent"

"Thou brought this upon thyself."
This grim thing was death itself
"Change thy ways, Sir."
"My will you cannot deter..."

All manner of horrifying things
Scrooge was shown on death's darks wings
He vowed to change his life
He swore to no longer be the source of strife.

Transported back, away from it all
All Scrooge could do was bawl
He was redeemed and given new hope
Through darkness of mind he would no longer grope.

Determined to start over new
To live the rest of his life as just and true
To bring joy to those around
A more joyful man could never be found.

So, my dear friends,
I am sad to say, this tale must end
I pray that you have learned,
Of other's well being, never be unconcerned.
