Much Too Young, To Be Feeling This Old

15
You now realize that you feel much too young to be feeling this
You are sharing a bed with a friend
Who was never really a friend
But a friend of a friend
The couch is taken-this isn't even your house
So you lay back to back
With this friend (of a friend)
Your mouth is numb, and your eyes are wide
Shallow breaths are the only noise, as you try to steady your breathing
You both are too scared to talk-
-For reasons unknown
It is much too late to feel this awake
You are only 15
You are much too young to feel this old

16
You now realize that super heroes don't make their own costumes
You have your first job at a grocery store
Working the night shift
As a cashier
Over the silence, you could hear the wheels squeak on a cart
It is only 12 at night, you and the shopper are the only ones here
You finally see them as they round the corner of aisle 8
You lock eyes, and you try to convey your whole night to them, as they do the same
They then move on, both of you filing away this night's encounter
The store lights flicker
It is much too bright, to feel this at home
You are only 16
You are much too young to feel this old

17
You now realize the world does not stop for anyone (including you)
You are in a car with good friend, better memories, morning breath and grogginess
Conversation is dropped and is stored in the trunk for later
You are in the back seat, with the windows rolled all the way up
Silence is broken only by unspoken words
They rip you apart
And you have the hysteric need to cry
You are much too sad to feel this infinite
You are only 17
You are much too young, to feel this old

18
You now realize age is everything but a number
High school is ending, and you have but a day to talk to her
You are only friends, but friends in quotes
You got a nice view of the back of her head as she walks off with her boyfriend
She is going to college soon, you never got to tell her you loved her
But you are OK
You are safe
You are 18 but
You are too damn young to feel this damn old
