Holding Your Tongue

I just can't stand to see my best friend so broken.
He tore out her heart and left emptiness inside.
I would do anything to help her pain subside.
Through sorrowful tears it's hard to fit a joke in.
It's hard for her to eat or sleep once she's woken.
It's near impossible to stand by and abide
As she tries to defend the same guy who denied
Her all the times the words "I love you" where spoken.

I just can't express how much I want to shout out,
"He's just a jerk! He doesn't know what he's missing!"
But I know that wouldn't help, only hurt her more.
I'll withhold my judgement when I want to implore
She move on, though he left her hanging and wishing.
Sometimes holding your tongue is what friendship's about.
