Photographs

The past is all around us,
Hidden in increments of every object.
Some are happy in forms of laughter and smiles,
While others hold terrible secrets.

Pictures hold these memories together,
Bound forever in a frozen moment of time.
In some, everything seems perfect,
Until they get to know the truth behind them.

Words label the individuals in the time capsules.
Others have no recognition,
As if they are not as important as the rest.

The memories get put away,
Under the bed, in the closet, or in a drawer.
Ten years from now the moments will be born again,
But for now, they get closed away in the silence,
Patiently waiting to come out of the dark.
