Dearly Departed

Hardly disturbed by the crumbling of your world, you try your best to smile
Because it’s only hurting on the inside, and you’ve been feeling this way for a while
So, naturally it shouldn’t really matter if you can barely breathe
Because they don’t understand that you’re begging to be free

You just walk on with your head held high, never mind the tears brushing your cheeks
It doesn’t really matter, even though you’ll be feeling this way for weeks
They don’t really notice, or maybe they do
It’s just never really mattered to you

All the lights are fading now, and the curtains are closing fast
Take another breath, just make this feeling last
So precise and so in peace, you see every moment as you cry
Your denial fixes marks in your dearly departed eyes

Selflessly devoted to the figment of your chance
Torn to shreds by the memory of a single passing glance
No-one really knows who you are, but still they stop and stare
Consumed by your agony, you wither in despair

Standing by the mirror, staring at your crown
You’re just beginning to notice how they’ve always let you down
Never any care for your feelings and how they hurt
They justify their reason by saying that you’ve been through worse

Your reason and your motive were no match for this demise
Any cares you may have had are dropping dead like flies
A senseless loss of a once known pride
You’re laughing as you’re bleeding, eyes hollowing inside

In truth you’ve tried your best to escape, this semblance of a dream
Laughing along, while inside you want to scream
The hollow version, of a beautiful girl
Trying to decide, what the truth is in this world
