The Things You Do

Not a word to be spoken
Nothing needs to be said
So take my hand into yours
And smile silently instead
In this peaceful, quiet
Nearly perfect bliss
Wrap me in a gentle hug
And share with me, one kiss.
Touch my my back
Hold my hand
Watch me fall
And help me stand
These are the things
You so daily do
And for all of them and more
I do so love you.
You call me beautiful
You sing heartbreakingly
You hold my hair when I'm sick
You kiss me breathtakingly
Your eyes stare endlessly
With their red, yellow, orange and blue
As you lean in, kiss my neck and whisper
"I love you too."
So take my hand...
But careful with my heart...
I can't give you all of it
Because I've been torn apart
By people in life
And of course by pain
But it doesn't matter now
Because I'm not the same
You tickle me and lick me
And play my silly little games
You know me like an old loved book
Dog eared and coved in stains
You hold me tight
And let me sleep on you
Kiss the top of my head
And smile too
And that smile that I so adore
Always stretches wide
And it takes away any pain
Any tears that I've cried
I'll light up your city
If you turn out my lights
To dream of you
For countless nights
These hands are yours
This old heart too
Tread gently please
Because love you, I do.
