Sweet Mary Jane

Sweet Mary Jane, a perfect angel in her mother's eyes
She never sinned, never fell, never cut someone down to size
Her father laughed at Sweet Mary's hopes and dreams and yet
She never gave up 'til her mom drew her last breath.

Her hero gone, Sweet Mary cried every morn to noon
Dear Daddy drank, and decided that he would kill her too.
He had a gun, shot at Mary once, and never shot again
Sweet Mary Jane took that gun and shot Daddy dead.

Very next day, Sweet Mary Jane walked into the courtroom
They called her a killer, and they called her a sinner, and they called her a loon
But god forbid the judge ever walk a mile in her shoes
'Cause then he might know what it's like to have to lose.
