My Restless Lover

His eyes show the night's workings
His mind scattered.
He tries to hide what has happened,
His peaceful rest shattered.

I look on quietly knowing
That last night wasn't well.
The dark bags under his eyes
Have a story to tell.

They say, "He lied there awake,
As the wind howled outside.
You've no idea how long he shook.
He thought of him, but never cried."

He turns his gaze on my stare.
Smiles weakly, tries to cover
All the sleeplessness I can see.
My insomniac, my restless lover.

I return the smile for we both know
That he's exhausted, endlessly tired.
I kiss him softly, to let him know,
It's his persistence I admire.
