The Voice Inside

Words.
They cut through skin like a razor,
Piercing the heart with every syllable emitted.
Stabbing, Ripping, tearing away any self-confidence left.
“Don’t cry.” The voice inside whispers

Actions.
They prove how much those around you care,
Don’t they?
Punches given without the slightest thought.
Pushing, Shoving; leaving scars that last a lifetime.
“They love you.” The voice inside whispers.

Inside.
I stand before my mirror now,
Hatred coursing through my veins.
My blood bubbles as I look at the failure that stares back at me.
Tears begin to fall, overflowing like a Kentucky river.
They fall faster now,
Rolling down my cheeks, over my lips and down my chin
Only to fall off and crash to the floor.
Never to be seen again.
My tears don’t stop as I look at the failure that stares back at me.
Self-pity, self-hatred, self-mutilation.
Forever they leave the biggest scars,
On my heart, my body and my mind.
“Failure.” The voice inside whispers.
