No Such Thing As Luck

Nothing is ever too lost, or too far gone
Even if you feel as though you don’t belong
Even if everything turns to deep frost
The hope you get is worth its price and cost
You hide what you feel behind false smiles
You shield your heart with grateful denials
Your tongue is heavy with words left unsaid
So you try to lighten it with lies instead
They try to tell you that you’re not alone
But what do they know, your heart is stone
They try to understand what you have been through
They try to take your problems like it’s theirs to undo
But it feels like behind your back they’re filled with hate
They resent and take your life and discriminate
They assume they know you better than yourself
So the pain and headaches seep through without stealth
You cry these tears from the hand you’ve been dealt
And poker faces don’t work with the insults below the belt
Time moves too fast and the past won’t be left behind
It comes back to haunt you in the form of a hidden sign
You watch, and then you wait, and then you hope
You keep wondering how you can cope
Your problems aren’t even close to over
You need more than a four-leaf clover.
