Phantom Memories

You stayed just long enough to place yourself in every aspect of my life.
So now that you're gone, I miss you all the more.
In every place I go, I'm bombarded - knocked off my feet
as visions of our times together stampede through my mind:
- the way you wrapped your arms around me
- when you'd kiss me on the forehead
- the way we fit so perfectly together
- the feeling of your fingers tracing shapes on my skin
- your heartbeat echos through my mind all day. It's become the soundtrack of my life.
Then just as harshly, I'm thrown back into reality.
A horrible place where you avoid me,
where you deliberately turn your back,
leaving me stranded, all alone
grasping for and clinging to these phantom memories.
