Graffiti Prayer

How do we become famous
For looking death in the face?
And smiling back at it
Like we don’t care if we live or die

Are we really all that impressive?
Or are we stupid teenage brains?
Do we deserve this glory?
Or should we say a prayer in your name?

Should we sing a ballad of our triumphs?
Or forever confess to our sins?
Are we really on the winning side?
Or are we fighting a loosing war?

I know we are all insane
To trust ourselves in the hands of saints
But I still light a candle in your name
And repeat words worn in my heart

To make believe that shadows don’t move
And we’ll recover from this okay
Poison and lies to draw us in
To believe in pale white skin

One day I’m going to believe in you
On that day I’ll be famous
For my mistakes and pain
And looking over the edge
