We Had To Say Goodbye

We were never supposed to be.
How could we not see?
Maybe we were to be.

We may never know,
But my face won’t show
That I never wanted you to go.

Why couldn’t you stay?
Why not make my day?
Why do you mold like clay?

You couldn’t convince yourself,
All my words were on your shelf,
Telling you what I thought myself.

You know I wanted it to last,
And to not end so fast.
Now I think of the past.

I begin to cry,
And ask myself why
We had to say goodbye.
