"Tortured Dreams"

I have come to know a time and place
Where only you say my name.
Though it doesn't even cross your lips,
Every other cry is vain.
I have come to feel a sorrow
I can only blame you for.
A reason - excuse - to think of you
And keep from walking through that door.
I have come to find myself awake
Living in a state of tortured dreams.
Barely clinging to a reality
That's holding tenuously at the seams.
I have come to wish for you by night
And love your memory more by day.
Agonizing over words you've said,
And even more you wouldn't say.
I have come to realize you're not there.
In spirit, sun- or shadow-light.
Reaching out to find you gone.
Knowing, even so, it's a worthless fight.
