"Last Goodbye"

The pain in my heart increases
With every word I hear you say.
The tears well and overflow
With every step as you walk away.
The air around me freezes,
Just like the look that's in your eyes.
I try to cover my ears in vain
As you calmly whisper that last goodbye.
The tears, they dry up so suddenly
As I watch the world through sightless eyes.
Knowing there's no point to shouting your name
If you'll never hear my cries.
The world still turns without you,
But life seems dull and grey.
It's not my fault you had to leave,
But neither could I have made you stay.
