Generation of Apathy

Look again at the breaking news headlines:
"Suicide bombings claim 28 lives"
But we barely even notice, too desensitized
To these catastrophes, signature of our times

And mom and dad blame video games
For the violent tendencies of the kids that they raise
But in their hearts, they probably know the truth:
It's because these days, each death that we see in the news
Is not a tragedy, it's just another statistic
And that's a travesty, but it's something we live with

Like the time clock, or your weekly magazine
Death now is just a part of a standard routine
We're all falling victim to a war that didn't have to be
And mass destruction mass produced a generation of apathy
