The Fire Bird

~warm hues of fire blend
with the sunset
as you attempt to fend
off the heat that sears so deep

to eat through your flesh~
~nothing more than black ash~
~lung fills~
~smoke distills~

~suffocating~
~bloodshot eyes~
~no longer waiting~
to listen to lies~

~darkness shrouds you~
~the empty void~
~hope please renew
strength so long ago destroyed~

~red light shines~
~intense~ direct~
~an earsplitting sound whines~
~didnt expect~

~not the flames light~
~hope blooms~ thrives~
~a stunning sight~
~the creature lands after it dives~

~sleek red feathers glow~
~wise black eyes stare
to show
no earthly being is the creature~

~hand extends~
~soft feathers caress~
~light so bright transcends~
~radiance blinds with distress~

~the feathers no longer stroke~
~ashes lay~
~the red a sad
contrast to the gray~

~tears fall down a cheek
at the situation~
now more bleak~
~a tear lands in the ash~

~numerous laces
of smoke~
~the ash traces
now awoke~

~coughing and sputtering~
~your veins set aflame
with cold fire~
~you exclaim~

~convulsions so difficult~
~hands on stomach~ body shaking~
~temperature escalating~
~then nothing at all~

~gaze travels all around~
~you let out a cry~
~a scene to confound~
~joy in your eye~

~the flames are gone~
~your skin no longer marred~
~the colors of dawn
shine on a glass shard~

~the bird of fire~
saved your life on cue~
~the fire bird is now a part of you~
