Simply Complicated

You sit and watch the ocean before us,
clasping your hand in mine.
And you see the beautiful reflection in the blue tint mirror.
The image provides us with memories of the things we forgot.

You burst out in anger, throwing a rock in the water,
distorting the picture with ripples.
And when it resettles, I'm searching for your outline,
which has since disappeared from my side.

All of the clouds were stained gray with sadness.
The sky turned blacker and blacker, along with my broken heart.
The storm began with a strike of lightning, and the boom of thunder.
Raindrops fell down my face, disguising themselves among the tears.

I was waiting out the storm
because you caused its rain.
Did you leave me all drenched and dying?
Or are you coming back again?

Snacking on cattails makes me sleepy,
so I rested my head underwater.
To my surprise, the lily pads were hiding around me.
But it wilted at my gentle attempt to hold it's beauty.

I tried to see where you went, looking deeper into the ocean,
when I suddenly fell in head over heels.
I crawled out slowly and laid on the land
as I coughed up water, and emotions I'd never had before.

The heartbreak I was wallowing in couldn't be beared much longer.
My eyes started to shut as you ran to my side.
You cried to yourself with long piercing sobs.
I smiled at you before slipping away, and you whispered "I'm sorry."

The sun creeped out from behind the tall trees,
drying all except the corpse of the girl that you loved.
You grazed her pale skin, gazing at her closed eyes.
Her once pink lips were now frozen blue

and you kissed them once more, sobbing into your hands.

But this was no fairy tale, and she was no princess.

Now every time that it storms,
Your soul stands outside in the pouring rain,
waiting to see her.

You lay yourself to rest just where she did
Head underwater, and the stone that started it all in your palm.

And although your dreams will forever sink to the depths of the ocean,
your spirit floats on with her in your arms, to the very top of the dark black sky.
