Shes Fine... For Them

She whispers she's fine, as tears start streaming down.
Nobody's around though, not to hear her or see her frown.
She curls up in a ball, tells herself that she's okay.
Closes her eyes tight, and tries to wish it all away.
Digs her nails into her wrist, over her favorite scar.
Whispers to herself, that she can't go that far.
Clings onto herself, because she's the only one there.
The only one who can know, without having a care.
Others would pressure her, ask her questions that won't end.
And she'd have to answer them, because she's a good friend.
So she hides the breakdown, until they think she's fast asleep.
But that's when she's tempted to break, the promises she can't keep.
That's why she doesn't promise anymore, she doesn't want to lie.
She doesn't want to give them, one more reason to cry.
She's supposed to take it away, take the pain from their hands.
Supposed to be the one, the one that understands.
So she wipes the tears from her eyes, and tells herself to be strong.
Because it's all in her mind, there's really nothing wrong.
That's what she tells herself, that's what she does every night.
Tells herself over and over again, to keep up the fight.
Even though she doesn't want to, she doesn't want to be here anymore.
But she's got to, because they're counting on her more than ever before.
And she doesn't really mind it, because she's doing what needs to be done.
But inside she knows, they're the only reason her battles are always won.
