He took my place
The night was shrouded in mist
She sat, and her heart was exposed to the darkness
Her eyes were shut, she crossed her wrists
And waited for the night to engulf her
It billowed around her like smoke or fog
It stunk of pain and sulfur
Blacker than black, thicker than smog
Its emptiness feasted upon her
But there’s hope still left
For those who draw breath
True love’s dear sacrifice must they make
Or it’s her soul that the darkness will take
She cried out to him, but it swallowed that too
“Please let me go,” she cried quite forlornly
“I still want to live, please let me go I’m begging you”
But her words fell upon deaf ears, and it began to constrict
The darkness flowed through her nose and into her eyes
Filling her up to the brim
“No one’s around to hear your pitiful cries.”
The darkness spat back, seemingly condemning her to death
But there’s hope still left
For those who draw breath
True love’s dear sacrifice must they make
Or it’s her soul that the darkness will take
He knew something was wrong when she didn’t call back
Her love had sensed her fear
He burst through her door, breaking the latch
But her absence revealed she was no where near
He tore down the road, never stopping to rest
He knew he must hurry before it was too late
Breath can difficulty, running wasn’t at its best
But he knew that there was absolutely no time to wait
But there’s hope still left
For those who draw breath
True love’s dear sacrifice must they make
Or it’s her soul that the darkness will take
Skidding to a stop, the park seemed so desolate and cold
But he charged in anyways leaving behind all cares but the one for her
There on the bench he saw her surrounded in darkness, quickly growing old
“Ariana, Ariana please!” He called desperately for her
“Aiden!” she yelped through the darkness her words barely heard
“What do I do?! What is this stuff?” Aiden screamed
“You do NOTHING! You flit away like a frightened bird,
And I will have her soul before you get too far.” The darkness beamed.
But there’s hope still left
For those who draw breath
True love’s dear sacrifice must they make
Or it’s her soul that the darkness will take
“Please I’ll do anything.” Aiden cried
“Why do you want to save this wretch?” It hissed
“I love her.” He turned away, his tears he tried to hide
“I’ll just kill you both.” It lashed out but missed
“I will die in her place.” Aiden went out on a limb
“You will both die; I’ll kill just because I can!”
Then the darkness surrounded Aiden and killed him
Ariana watched him die, and then she ran
There was hope still left
For she did draw breath
The girl is still out there if you look
For it was his soul, not hers, that the darkness took
She sat, and her heart was exposed to the darkness
