The Darkness

Long shadows slink across my wall,
glass shatters as voices rise.
The thick silence afterwards almost kills me,
because I wonder if they made it through the night.
A piercing scream, a blinding light,
then the sound of sirens.
That night my world was shattered
because someone lost their temper.

I'm pulled from my room,
my shelter.
Wondering what will happen next,
its then that I see your still face.
The lifelessness scares me,
the color of your skin worries me.
The once white carpet now absorbs the blood, pouring from your side.

A silent scream escapes my lips,
but the sound never reaches the air.
A tug on my arm, a murmur in my ear,
nothing registers.
I know you're gone, but I pull away,
crouch over your lifeless body,
and place my hand against your cool cheek.
You're gone.
