Marionette

Never will I see the sky,
Forever forced to be confined,
Always doing others bidding,
Encased in black, silence all around,
Oh, how I wish to see the sky,
To spread my wings and soar,

Alas, I am not strong enough,
Chained like some helpless pet,
These strings like ropes
Tying me down; binding me,

The light is blinding,
They pull on my strings; make me dance,
My arms like wings,
I feel so free!

The music flows all around,
Gliding me across the stage,
Each note makes me stronger,
These chains becoming weaker,

My illusion is diminished,
The dance is over,
They break my wings,
Darkness surrounds,
And I await my next chance to fly,

Oh, how I wish to see the sky

As I've mentioned before I wrote this in my Honors English class as a project. We were instructed to create a poem inspired by one of E.E. Cummings' paintings. This is what mine turned into. Sorry if it sounds awkward, I'm getting better at my writings. (I hope)
