The Killing

Looking at the lifeless man, the blood halo a sign of who he was
But who he died for, and who killed him so heartlessly.

His eyes closed automatically, as to say
“I will see you soon, for I am simply resting forever.”

Lying on the ground, where he fell after the bullets entered.
As from the ground he came, to the ground he shall return.

The fear of the bystanders, not just of the murderers,
Of the fear that you shall never smile or live again.

And finally of the life and family you left behind,
Who shall remember your legacy and live their lives for you.

This poem was inspired by an incident in the book 'Walk in my Shoes' by Alwyn Evans, when a character called Abdul's dad is killed by the Taliban. This poem was an English assignment.
