Gathering the Shards

Can you see the pain that plagues my broken heart,
Reflected in my exhausted and clouded green eyes?

How does it feel to know you have this power?
You can make me bleed and become nothing…
Fold under the verbal abuse and rip my wrists open.

The sunset brings tears to my eyes; the end of our only day.
I hold the white rose a little too tight.
Something makes you flinch. Revenge or regret?
The scarlet spotted rose is reflected in your eyes.

My heart and thoughts race as I watch the sky,
The sun’s dying rays temperate on my face.
“You’ve made your mark; you’ve bitten hard enough,
Are you satisfied yet?”

Greeted with silence, I look down as the sky breaks and cries upon us.
I drop the rose and watch it fall, a petal breaking loose and
Flying away in the wind.
I want to break loose. I want to fly away.

Hold onto me,
I need you to understand,
Can you hear me?
Don’t let me go.

On my knees, I pick up the bloodied, dying rose.
We have much in common.

Can you see the pain the plagues my broken heart,
Reflected in my dark, sad green eyes?

I’ve got all the pieces; all that’s left is to repair the unrepairable.
Stitch together the unstichable.

And when I’m done?
I’ll ignore the un-ignorable; the love I have for you.
I’ll be there for you, through it all: An infallible friend…
When I’m done repairing the un-repairable;
My heart.
