Piano String Screams

The piano can’t scream if its strings are snapped
And the smile won’t beam if the tongue is trapped.
‘Round the bend of tears in the watchful lane,
Where the alien fears threaten what is sane.

And the sparrow sings only to his mind
For the circle rings of our eyes do bind
Where the judgement stares and the teardrops crack.
Throw the soul who cares to the highway’s track.

So the careful child will avoid the road
‘Cause the street is wild where the speed is towed
By the cars who fly at a showy glance
Never wondering why he retains his stance.

And the Cheshire’s tongue is a twist so tied
‘Cause his grin is wrung just a word too wide
Though aloud he sneers at the hare’s strange fate
In the dreaming years he alone is late.

Here between the land and the sky’s broad arm.
We refuse to stand without crushing charm.
And we’ll twist the knife into every lie.
Here between our life and the day we die.
