This Alibi Is Fate

The blood and snow of candy canes
Is ashen in the sun
And the walls are dulled to coffee stains
That splatter from a gun.

It’s pointed at the coloured strings
Who shield your bone and mind
But it’s made of words and other things
That form the metal kind.

Imagination rears its head
And spews poetic death
From behind the teeth that stroke your dread
And tongue that cuts your breath.

When sky is closing further in
Than dark could ever do
Even now the sun can’t save your grin
From falling for the blue.

Your alibi is fate alone
For what you cannot see
And though tucked away, the devil’s bone
Is treasured more than he.

The only voice inside your ears
Has whispered shadowed gloom
Since your eyes were filled with lack of tears
That echoed through the room.

The world rejects your ashen blood
And pallid turns to white
Your skin like snow is mixed like mud
With filth you still recite.

Us humans say we detest hurt
And never want to die
But we’ve carved along the blended dirt
Too many times to lie.
