Overdose

It never ends

Or that’s what it seems

Vacant and empty

Just like his dreams

A scream and a shout

Then it’s all gone

Everything’s quiet

Except for the ambulance’s song

Red light, blue light

He’s on a new bed

Though he doesn’t feel it

He’s trapped in his head

‘It wasn’t my fault!’

He shouts to the dark

The powders where he left it

And it’s left its mark

Temptation to high

A will too weak

Alone in the darkness

He can’t even speak

Tears streak his face

Though they aren’t his own

‘I didn’t mean to,

I should have known.’

Mother and father

Stand by his bed

He’s lost forever now

Forever in his head

They warned him once

Some warned him twice

Now this young man

Has paid the price
