Shattered Jewels

New cut diamonds sparkle in the dawn light
Dazzling onlookers by shining so bright

The fire dancing in their hearts
Showing true life in its dancing sparks

But zirconium runs rampant through the streets
Thriving in the poison environment that breaks the innocent weak

Its fake splendor draws the eye of the crowd
A hideous soul hidden by a beautiful shroud

As fewer and fewer look or care
The diamonds’ shine disappears under the dust they bear

Tarnished an disregarded, want keeps them confined
To the life of being trodden on by mankind

Used and thrown away by the public they had once enthralled
The ones that watch unflinching as the hopeless fall

Grime smothering the fire that had lived within
They become like the rest, shattered jewels, lost to men
