Her pain, His gain

Her heart was too innocent
Yet it screamed for vengeance
Her mind too sad
But filled with thoughts of despair
Despair that screamed seemingly forever
And in the end all that was left was the blood that she bled
The sheets in a mess
The tears drops she wept.

The years of war had changed him
The pain took a new hold over him
The memories, the screams
He ranted it out
She listened
He cried it out
She comforted
He lashed out
She cried.

‘For the children’ he grunted ‘for the children’
But there were no children
Never a newborn soul
Left childless and broken till he came to her door.

‘Give me the chance’ he said with blue eyes
‘Make this deal with me now and make him pay’ his hair glowed like the sun
‘For we are starved of satisfaction, he has wronged us both’ his teeth sparkled
‘Let me end this pain for the both of us’
But he was just another man
Just another character
Just another chapter in her sad story there after.

Inspired while watching North and South with my mum (reluctantly) and thoughts about the American Civil War and how women back then were like machines. My friend read this and told me she was gonna cry lol she thought it was a sad ballad so I put it under ballad since I am a total noob with poems. I hate them honestly lol
