Doll

She was such a pretty doll.

If you turned the knob in her back
She sang a pretty tune.
Always the same melody,
But such a sweet song,
Oh, you twisted that knob over
And over.

She was such a pretty doll.

If you pushed that button right there--
Oh, she'd walk and talk
And say "I love you"
And she just looked so real
You'd hardly believe it was
Only pretend.

She was such a pretty doll.

She had perfect glass eyes
The color of the ocean.
They closed when you laid her down
And opened when she sat up
Oh, she was always so happy
To see you.

She was such a pretty doll.

But you twisted that knob one too many times
And baby, it broke right off.
She won't sing for you.
The speaker box is broken, see?
And the gears at the hips too.
She won't walk for you
Or tell you she loves you.
Those ocean blue eyes,
Well they were only glass after all
And they're shattered.

It's a good thing she was only ever just
Such a pretty
doll.
